Ladies Open 2009
Despite abysmal weather forecasts leading up to the day, the Ladies Open at Thorpe Wood was
blessed with reasonable weather which helped to make this event once again a great success.
There was a good field of well over 100 players from many different clubs in the area, playing a
3 Ball Alliance Stableford format.
The team of Barbara Stone, Teresa Glasper & Jeannette McGarry from Elton Furze set a high
target coming in early in the field with a stableford score of 81 points. This remained unbeaten
although Lyn Smith, Angela Robinson and Chris Begley from Bourn GC came in towards the end of
the day with a score of 80 pts, Melanie Steel, Helen Long and Jane Leigh of Elton Furze were in
third place with 79 pts and Cynthia Tunnicliff, Jean Brown & Pat James of Brampton Heath
fourth with 78 pts.
The charity chosen this year by the lady captain Nicky Plumtree is Macmillan Cancer Support and
the proceeds for this from the raffle and putting competition totalled over £300.
