The Club Delegate, Nicky Plumtree, reported on the merger of the English Golf Union (EGU) and England Womens Golf Association (EWGA).

There was an overwhelming vote in favour of the merger, 100% by the ladies and 91% by the men. Therefore, from 1 January 2012 EWGA will become a wholly subsidiary body within the EGU; the whole organisation will be renamed England Golf. In early January the new board will meet and organise the new committees and the staffing structure. The assets of EWGA and the EGU will be amalgamated before 31 March 2012. The EWGA and EGU websites will remain as they are for the time being but will become amalgamated in time. There will be little change in Regional and National golf programmes this year as all the planning has been completed for 2012. Therefore the two organisations will run in parallel for the first 12 months.  Changes for 2013 will be notified as the committees settle to their tasks in the coming year. Progress of the amalgamation will be published on the websites.
---------------
With regards to the merger of Thorpe Wood and Orton Meadows - at present there has been very little information on progress. There was a lot of debate at the meeting last night.  As a result, the Chairman of the meeting, Mr Danny Cameron, who is the proposed Chairman for the club in 2012 will, after the Club AGM on Thur 1 Dec, put together a letter to Simon Fitton to try and obtain some answers to the queries that arose, and also put forward some of the suggestions that were made.

Some of the ladies will have seen that work on the Driving Range has commenced and should be completed by March 2012.

As said before, every attempt will be made to keep the membership up to date on information available.

Info Sheet 8/2011

Hi Ladies

The year is passing by very rapidly and the last match, the mixed against Elton Furze, ended in a win for Thorpe Wood 4-2.  On Thursday 20th there is a stableford competition and later in the month, Thursday 20th, there is a 9 Holes Bring & Win. The Captain v Vice Captain fun match is planned for Saturday 22 Oct and for any ladies interested in playing there is a sign up sheet in the changing room and the lady captain has made a reservation in The Woodman for any ladies who would like to join in with the meal afterwards.

-----------

The AGM is in the diary for Monday 21st November, and will take place in the clubroom at Orton Meadows Golf Club. The agenda will be sent out to members later this month.

------------

To date no-one has volunteered to take over as Treasurer from the end of November this year when Trish Crighton will be standing down from the post. Is there any lady who would be willing to help - the time in office would be until the end of 2012 at which time the merger between Orton Meadows and Thorpe Wood is planned to take place? Trish has said she would give as much help as possible to the new Treasurer.

------------

The Xmas 9 Holes Competition with the Xmas Meal in the evening will be on Thurs 8 Dec, the meal again at The Stilton Cheese in Stilton. Details will be published in the near future.

-----------
INFO SHEET 7/2011

The Lady Captain’s Day was a great success - enjoyed by all who joined in. The weather was kind to the players - a great help. Maisy Turner returned the best gross score over two rounds to become the Lady Champion 2011/2012. Nicky Plumtree won the captain’s prize and the Peggy Hopkins Salver.

The meal was held at the Stilton Cheese, in Stilton - the food and service was excellent.

----------
Re the planned merger of Thorpe Wood and Orton Meadows Golf Clubs - this has been postponed until 2013. We shall endeavour to keep members advised of any news.

----------
There are still places available for the Boston West combined weekend away with Orton Meadows ladies on 25th/26th September - cost £69.  For any further information contact lady captain.
----------------------------

Trish Crighton, the Ladies Section Treasurer, will be standing down from this post after the AGM in November due to work commitments. Therefore, it would be greatly appreciated if there is a lady member who would be willing to take over this post if she would let me know please. Trish would give all the help needed for someone else to take over as treasurer for 2012.

----------

The mixed match v Oundle fixture is now scheduled for the 24th September, at Thorpe Wood, 10 for 11 am.

----------
It was agreed at the last committee meeting that if there is a total of 8 ladies or more playing in the two monthly medal competitions, then there will be a voucher to the value of £5 for the second place player.
----------

The planned merger of EWGA and the EGU is progressing. Details of the merger timetable can be found on the EWGA website - www.englishwomensgolf.org. Incidentally, if you would like to receive the EWGA Newsletter which will keep you up to date on changes, competition, etc why not register. This can be done by going to the EWGA website and entering your details. Details are data protected and no information will be passed on to other sources.

Just to keep you updated - Nicky is coming along well and will be at the club this Thursday for the committee meeting, prior to the New Zealand Lamb Bogey competition.

The Lady Captain needed to rearrange the date of the Lady Captain v Vice Captain match - it is now planned for Saturday 4th September - so change the date in your diaries - more details will follow.

This month, besides the NZ Lamb Bogey, there are medal competitions on the Sat 7th and Tues 10th, a stableford competition on Thurs 19th and the Private Eye 3 Club competition on Thurs 26th. The Private Eye Comp is sponsored by Sue and Bill Hennigan so a good turnout would be welcome.

There is a golf clinic at 5.30pm, venue Orton Meadows. this coming Wed, the 4th August and another on Wed 1 Sep.  There are still vacancies and if anyone is interested, contact the lady captain.

Hi Ladies

Some of you will be aware that Nicky Plumtree, last year’s lady captain, has been in hospital for a hip replacement op. All went well and she was home in 4 days. The Lady Captain has visited Nicky and, on behalf of the lady members, presented Nicky with rose bushes and Nicky has asked that her grateful thanks be passed on to the ladies. Nicky had hoped to be at the evening meal on Lady Captain’s Day but, unfortunately, will not be able to join us as there are no special facilities at Fratelli’s for the ‘disabled’. Nicky will be going into hospital again on 3 Sep to have the other hip replaced so if all goes well she will have the winter to recover and will be back on the course will us early in the new year.
----

Re Lady Captain’s Day, there are still tee times available for ladies to play - come and join in - the field will be divided into 3 divisions and there will be 3 prizes for each division. You do not have to play on both medal days to join in. There is no green fee although ladies who will not be attending the evening meal will be asked to pay £5.

At the evening meal, the trophies and vouchers will be awarded for the competitions that have taken place during the first part of the year.

Further to the choices sent out by the lady captain, lasagne has now been added to the menu.

---

A reminder that the Mixed Open takes place on Sunday 8th August and there are still tee times available - these will be between 12.30 and 2.30 approx. There are a couple of men looking for playing partners if any ladies are interested in playing.

Again the Halfway House will be open for a couple of hours on that day when soft drinks and biscuits will be available for the players. One or two volunteers to look after this would be welcome??? Any offers?

---
The lady captain has asked if any ladies could contribute a raffle prize for the AM AM in September - donations would be appreciated.

---

There are two more golf clinics arranged - one 4 Aug and the other 1 Sep. If you would like to participate contact the lady captain for more information.
---

The lady captain is considering arranging 9 hole days out for the high handicappers, or those without handicaps, possibly at Thorney Lakes or North Luffenham. Please contact her if you are interested.
---
Finally, a date for your diary, an Away Day is being organised for 13th September at Ramsey Golf Club, tees from 11 am.

The lady captain completed a very successful Charity Golf Marathon last Monday completing 6 rounds and 1 hole. She went in 11 bunkers, had 228 putts and scored 169 Stableford points. 39 stableford points were scored on her fifth round which was also the second best round she has ever achieved at Thorpe Wood. The event raised over £400 in total.

The Seniors Open takes place on Wednesday 14th July and the coordinator, Colin Bagley, has asked if any ladies would kind enough to help out with the refreshments at the Halfway House during the day. Usually there are two ladies working together for about 2-3 hours, the first pair required at about 9am and the last finishing at about 4-4.30pm. If any ladies feels they could spare some time on the day, their help would be greatly appreciated. Contact me please on 01733 236821.
